MOAB TEACHING SCHEDULE

Saturday April 14 - Sunday April 15, 2012

We have reserved Goose Island A  campsite for everyone to camp at both Friday and Saturday night.  It is only 1.4 miles up river from Hwy 191.  It will take about 5 - 10 minutes to get there from downtown Moab. It can accomodate everyone in the course.  It is very close to Negro Bill Canyon.  There are toilets there. It is an improved campground with shade covering.  It will hold only about 35 people

We have also reserved Gold Bar C campground which is about 10 miles down stream on the north side of the Colorado River on Potash Road.  This campground will hold about 60 people.

Note:  We do not have the Gold Bar camp on Saturday night!  So if you stay Saturday night you will need to move to Goose Island.

It is important that you sign up for a campground for both nights so you will know where you are staying.

MATHESON WETLANDS NATURE - CABLE ARCH AND INDIAN RUINS – 7:30 am South End of the Wetlands

Take an early morning walk with through one of the best preserved and remaining wetlands in the United States. This area is home to hundreds of species of life of which many can be seen from “blinds” built in the midst of this beautiful place. Drive to the south end of town and turn west at the McDonalds and then drive about 1.5 miles across from the Tram. On the north side of the road is the wetlands.  Then, if you want, you may hike with geologist and antrhopologist, Bill Christiansen, to rarely visited Cable Arch and visit several Indian ruins of the ancient Pueblo along the way. This hike is not for the faint of heart, as you will need to scramble some short cliffs. The ruins are marvelous. Meet at the south end of the wetlands for directions. Bring hiking shoes, water and snacks.  Meet at 7:30 am

GEOLOGY LECTURE - 10:00 am - Campgorund   study the geology of the Moab area from Bill Christiansen, noted Utah Geologist.
